Point Reyes has many different cycling venues. It is a favorite destination for road cycling and mountain biking. Road cycling on Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Bear Valley Road or Lucas Valley Road are a great way to spend an active weekend. Mountain biking trails are common in the area but some National Park Trails are restricted. Maps and information are available from the National Park Service Bear Valley Visitor Center. Here are a few favorite trails recommended by www.cyclepointreyes.com.
Some of our favorite mountain biking trails...
Bear Valley Trail
This easily managed dirt path climbs to Divide Meadows then descends to Arch Rock. Bikes must be locked up about one mile before the beach at Arch Rock and trail completed on foot. The climb is gradual and shady and Divide Meadows makes for a great picnic spot.
This exciting single track recommended for more experienced riders descends from the Mount Vision parking lot to the Bayview Trail and Limantour Road. Steep and narrow but great views of Drakes Estero.
Samuel P. Taylor
Separate from Point Reyes National Seashore is the Samuel P. Taylor State Park which has the Cross Marin Trail, starting at Tacoloma at the Platform Bridge Road. The path is paved, cool and shady and makes for great riding for kids and beginners.
This trail has the best views of Tomales Bay and the surrounding areas. Although there are some climbs it is worth the effort for the view and the trip back down. Beginners will enjoy the mostly smooth track but may want to walk some of the steep hills and rutted patches.
